Importing bank statements

Typing in every purchase by hand is the job nobody wants. A bank statement already has all of it. SoloBook reads the file, and you check the result.

📄 Which files work

SoloBook reads these statement files:

Bank or serviceFile
RBCthe CSV from “Download Transactions” (choose the comma-delimited spreadsheet format)
WiseCSV
RevolutCSV
PrivatBankXLSX, for both personal and business accounts

If your bank is not on the list, SoloBook cannot read its files yet, but you can order the import from us. See Your bank is not on the list? below. Wise and PrivatBank can also be connected directly, with no files at all. See Connecting your bank.

Good to know: one RBC file can hold several accounts. SoloBook gives each of your accounts only its own rows, as long as the account’s number ending is filled in.

🪜 Step by step

  1. Open Imports.
  2. Choose the Bank account the statement belongs to.
  3. Drop the file onto the page, or click to choose it.
  4. Press Import.

Each account can name the format it expects. If you pick a file in the wrong format, SoloBook says so in plain words and tells you which format that account wants, or which banks it does recognize. Nothing is written.

📊 What the result means

After the import, you see counts:

  • Accepted: new transactions, now in your books.
  • Duplicates: rows that were already there. SoloBook skipped them. This is why importing the same file twice is safe.
  • Already recorded: deposits you had already marked as paid on an invoice. They are counted once, not twice.
  • Failed: rows SoloBook could not read.

Press Show these rows to open the Transactions screen filtered to just this import.

⏪ Changed your mind?

Every import is saved under Import history: the date, the file, the reader that handled it, the number of rows and the status (Processing, Completed, Failed or Reverted).

Revert removes every row that import created. SoloBook asks you to confirm first. Use it when you picked the wrong account.

💱 Other currencies

If an account is in another currency, SoloBook keeps the original amount and also shows it in Canadian dollars, using the Bank of Canada rate for the day of the transaction. A row that has no Canadian-dollar amount yet is left out of the totals, and the Dashboard tells you how many.

🙋 Your bank is not on the list?

You do not have to wait and wonder. If SoloBook cannot read your bank’s files yet, order the import from us. We will build it on your request, and it is free.

  1. Write to support@solobook.ca and tell us which bank and which kind of account you use.
  2. Attach a sample statement. Black out your name, account numbers and anything personal first. We only need to see the shape of the file.
  3. We build the import for that bank. When it is ready, you upload the file exactly as described above.

Please send statements only to this address, never through the chat.

➡️ What comes next

Imported rows arrive as Unreviewed. Sorting them is the next step: Reviewing transactions.
